So what is happenning this month on the island of Bali. For sure Balinese will be very busy to prepare all things to welcome hari raya Nyepi - the day of silence. Nyepi is considered as one of the biggest Hindu Bali's holidays. This year Nyepi will be celebrated on 16th of March '2010. Please note that Nyepi day will start on 6 am in the morning and end on 6 am the next day. During that period of time, no one are allowed to go outside, including hotel's guests. Everyone should stay inside the house, hotel's guests are only allowed to enjoy the facilities inside the hotel. But all activities should be done in silence, or at least not make any noise. Even Bali's international airport is closed for 24 hours.

On Nyepi day, Balinese will stay at home, keep silence, do fasting and meditation and have no fire, lights or other electronics devices. Even non-Hindu residents of Bali also follow the day of silence as a respect and tolerance for the local community. The only exceptions are granted for emergency vehicles carrying those who are ill and with life-threatening conditions.

You can still enjoy the festive part of this holiday because a day before Nyepi usually there are lots of ceremonies and the interesting part is Ogoh-Ogoh festival. Ogoh-Ogoh is a kind of giant doll in scarry faces and forms to simbolize evil. At the end of the parade all Ogoh-Ogoh will be burnt with the purpose to smash all evill, so they will not disturb people during Nyepi.
