At Bakti Budaya, JI. Bugu 5/A (off JI. Mataram Raya), study Sundanese traditional dancing, gamelan, wayang, topeng, suling; get there for the 11 am performances. School of Folk Art, JI. Bunga V, Jatinegara, is where you can see teachers and students playing music, Cirebon-style, dancing, wayang topeng, wayang kulit and golek puppet theatre from 10:30-12 pm each day. Radio Republic Indonesia holds regular performances of wayang kulit every second Sat. 9 pm-4:30 am at the National Museum on the western side of Medan Merdeka. Wayang go/ek is put on each alternate Sat., same hours, same location. At the National Museum, each Sun. 9:30-10:30 am, performances of Javanese game/an for the classical dance drama, wayang orang. Visit the Erasmus House, JI. Cikini Raya, the Dutch Cultural Center with many activities offered. Really old-fashioned colonial atmosphere: Indonesian ladies in their finery speaking High Dutch kouwekak ('cold shit'), classical concerts, kroncong bands, social nights. Sometimes free beer. Huge well-stocked library.
