Eat: Local delicacies include sate, gado2, bajigur (coconut juice), and bandrek ginger drink. Oncom is fried beancake, peanuts and yeast, Rp50 for a small one. Peyeum is made out of cassava with yeast added (a little sour); buy it at any market for Rp100 per kilo, more than enough for two. For western delights: T-bone steaks, bread, cookies, crackers, in fact, anything you can think of, try Tizi, JI. Hegarmanak 14; take a Ledeng bemo. Rp40, to Tizi. Also try other European dishes like mixed grill and Spaghetti Bolognaise (Rp1500) and puddings at Sukarasa Steak and Eggs, JI. Tamblong. A good place for Sundanese food is Balai Kambang, JI. Bungur. There's a small Javanese restaurant near the RR Station on JI. Tera near JI. Merdeka. Ponorogo Restaurant, JI. Batot Subroto 58, has good sate ayam, Rp250. Tjoen Kie, JI. Jen. Sudirman 46, is as good as Queen Chinese Restaurant but less expensive; Rp1000 for a luxury meal. A good value cheap restaurant is Rumah Makan Sakadarna, JI. Kebun Jati 34, near Peng. Semarang, 10 minutes walk from Hotel Malabar; nasi goreng, Rp150, sop sayur only Rp75; ask for the 'special sauce'.

PLN Complex at night has delicious martabak and side dishes; for around Rp200 eat your fill. Many warung and night markets downtown for Bandung specialty soto ayam. Indonesians eat along JI. Cikapundung: ayam goreng, ikan bakar (expensive), soto ayam, sate, gado2 tahu petis (hot). For ice cream, P.T. Rasa, JI. Tamblong, make their own. Well known also for ice cream is Panorama, JI Setia Budi; from there see Bandung alit at night. Try liscious comro sweets; they'll laugh at you when you ask for them because they're for kids. JI. Braga for sidewalk cafes, pastries, marzipan, and ice cream. Dago Teahouse: Catch a Colt at beginning of JI. Jr. H. Juanda for Rp40, get off at the end of the line, then walk %z km. The best view of the city from the top. Food served out on the terrace; a nice place to eat. Just behind the teahouse is the waterfall. University students who run the teahouse will point out the path to Maribaya for you, a lovely one hour's walk through rice paddies and over rivers.
