Gunungjati: Take a Colt taxi bus Rp125 from Cirebon (but only Rp75 return) 7 km down the main road to Jakarta to this tomb of Falatehan. He was the 9th wali who conquered Banten and then ruined the Hindu Kingdom of Pajajaran by conquering Jakarta. After subjugating the Kingdom of Cirebon he died. His tomb is still one of the holiest places on Java. Being a place of consecration, take off your shoes to enter. If you're going to give money, give only to the juru kunci (Keeper of the Shrine). Buy an empty bottle (Rp25) to fill up with holy water for sickness or to give to relations. Gunungjati's grave is closed to the public except for Kliwon (Fridays) of the Javanese calendar. Nearby, walk to the hilltop covered in graves next to the highway to get a view of the sea. Very pleasant on top with wild squirrels and silence; feel what Java used to be like.
