From Yogya by long-distance bus: Many night-bus companies, located mainly around the train station. Check them all out for cheaper fares and better buses. Mutiara Express, JI. Kyai Mojo 8, for night buses to Surabaya, Rp1300; departs 9 pm, arrives 4 am. Kembang Express, JI. Diponegoro 16, Rp1400 to Surabaya, leaves at 8:45 pm, arrives at 5 am. Damri also has buses to Surabaya, Rp1300; departs 8 pm, arrives 5 am. to Bali: Kembang Express has buses leaving at 8:45 pm. Legowo, JI. Diponegoro 47; and Gita Bali, JI. Sosrowijayan 31, both cost Rp3000. Gita Bali is one of the best companies; you get reserved seats, there are no standing passengers, and they really move along.

Their buses leave Yogya at 7 pm and arrive in Denpasar at 3 am (20 hours). Gita Bali's other fares, to: Probolinggo (Mt. Bromo), Rp1900; Surabaya, Rp1350. to Jakarta: Muncul Express, JI. Diponegoro 16, leaves at 4 pm, arrives 6 am; Remaja Express, JI. Mangkubumi (Rp2500 with a snack) leaves at 3:30, arrives 6 am. Barankarya, Rp2000, leaves 3 pm, arrives 6 am - one of the best outfits for this run. Damri Express, JI. Mangkubumi 8-10, also has cheap buses to Jakarta for Rp2000, departs 4 pm, arrives 4 am.
