Prambanan temple is often called Candi Lorojonggrang after the statue of the 'slender cursed virgin' in the north room, her nose missing and her breasts worn shiny smooth by hands for hundreds of years. In the courtyard in the small shrine opposite Shiva's great temple is a statue of Shiva's bull, Nandi, the only free-standing stone statue of an animal in ancient Indonesian art; sculpted in a very simple, powerful, yet natural style.
