Events of Solo: On the eve of Asyura I, the first day of the Javanese year on the Javanese calendar, 3 traditional ceremonial procession takes place in which royal heirlooms (kris, lances, etc.) of both kratons are carried around the city in order to be observed and blessed by the people. In Yogya, this ceremony is called Seketan and although it's more lavish and more famous, tourists are as thick as flies. Try to see a traditional Solonese wedding and 'meeting-ceremony' (temul in which the groom crushes an egg with his foot and the bride then washes the foot in flowery water. During Puasa, Solonese make pilgrimmages to graves and visit bathing places (at Cokrotulung and Pengging) to take ceremonial baths (padusan)
