Bara Ganesha: Take a bemo from Blitar out to the village of Bare where this gigantic 3-dimensional 14th Century statue of the elephant-god Ganesha stands in a garden. Dates from 1239 A.D. On his back is a large protective monster-head of kala. The elephant-god holds a fly whisk and a hatchet; tusks and skulls ornament.the lower frieze. Candi Sewentar: N.E. of Blitar. Since the top third of this 13th Century temple has caved in, it's now only 10 m tall. This Vishnu temple was dug out of lava, buried until the 19th Century. The base is quite well-preserved.
