Jalatunda: Also on the west side of the mountain, 4 km higher up on a rough steep road. This bathing sanctuary is on the slopes of Bekel, a western peak of G. Penanggungan. You can also reach it by a 3 hour walk from either Trawas or Mojosari. Built at the end of the 10th Century, it's probably the earliest candi in East Java. Sixteen large relief panels depicting the Pandava's story are scattered in ruins. Very down to earth simple tales. There are evocative, lithe, thin-limbed females and some of the male figures are dancing.

Most of the figures' heads are too large for their bodies. Reliefs on the outside of the spout panels depict a fictitious geneaology of a prince. other sights: The mountain resorts Pacet and Trawas are on the slopes of Welirang, 30 km S.E. of Mojokerto; visit the hotsprings. At Trawas, a /ingga has been dragged from Jalatunda. In the neighborhood of Nagara on the northern slopes of G. Penanggungan is the gateway of Jedong, dating from 1385 A.D., which resembles the facade of a temple; also another gate in the area.
