BUSES BEMOS

Buses and bemos: Cheapest motorized transport are buses. To anywhere on the island, Rp50350. The local buses such as the one from Gilamanuk to Denpasar or from Amlapura to Denpasar are often unbelievably slow (48 stops in 1 hour) but excellent for drinking in Balinese native life. Colts are much faster. The bemo and bus system on Bali is now so extensive that you can go virtually anywhere worth going to on day-trips from Denpasar. Do it in stages. For example, if you want to go from Ubud to Gianyar, go to the Sakah intersection first for RpSO, then flag down another bemo for the rest of the way for another Rp50. Charter a whole bemo for Rp3-4000 per day between 5 or 6 people. Just stand out on the roads and hitch-hike whatever comes by. Hitching on Bali is the best in all of Indonesia, getting rides with tourists, mail trucks or on the back of motorcycles.
