The equator cuts this island in two equal halves. Heaviest rains north of the equator are Oct.-April and the dry season is May-September. South of the equator the rainy season is Dec.Feb., making the southern roads impassable (they're bad to begin with). Best time to travel is September and October; the rains have started, but not heavily so that the roads are still good and, unlike in the dry season, there's no dust.
