Maninjau Indah, right on the lake, rents rooms for Rp3500; if you hit them at the right time, maybe only Rp500. Jump in the lake from your porch. Also has a bar and a restaurant. Other rooms rent for Rp1000, right next to the noisy moviehouse. The only cheap losmen, with only one room available, is Pasanggerahan Taniung Raja, Rp250 per person. Quite a dingy place but only 150 m from the water which is a good thing as there is sometimes no mandi water. Visit the jail next door and chat with murderers and felons sitting on the steps.
